Dublin City Council has blocked plans by U2's Bono and the Edge to refurbish their Dublin city centre hotel to the tune of 150 million euro.
The Irish Independent reports that the local authority has refused to extend 2007 planning permission granted to enlarge the Clarence Hotel.
The plans were shelved in 2009 due to the recession.
Earlier this year, the Clarence Partnership, which includes developer Paddy McKillen, had attempted to have the refurbishment put back on track, but Dublin City Council refused the application.
It centres on a proposed eight-story extension with a saucer-like roof known as the "skycatcher", which the council says exceeds the maximum height allowed at the location.
