Investigations are underway after the door of an Air Corps helicopter fell from the sky in Dublin this evening.

It happened in the Clondalkin area shortly before 6pm this evening.

Gardaí say they received reports that a 'large item' had landed in the grounds of Moyle Park College.

Photos and videos from the scene show that the rear door of an Air Corps helicopter had landed in the area.

There are no reports of any injuries.

In a statement, the Air Corps confirmed the incident happened as the AW139 helicopter was returning to Baldonnel to refuel after successfully transferring a patient to a Dublin hospital.

They said: "The area in which the door fell was secured by Defence Forces personnel and An Garda Siochana within five minutes of the incident and an investigation team were on scene within thirty minutes.

"Once the area has been analysed the door will be removed and transported to Baldonnel."

Gardaí remain at the scene of the incident this evening, with both gardaí and the Air Corps saying investigations are now underway.
