A demonstration will be held against violence against women in Dublin today.

Demonstrators will gather at the Spire on O'Connell at 2pm this afternoon, in a bid to raise awareness of the issue.

A Chrismas tree and posters held by women will display comments and issues around domestic violence at Christmas, organisers say.

Speakers will include TD Ruth Coppinger, and Ellen O'Malley-Dunlop, CEO of the Rape Crisis Centre.

The campaign group ROSA (for Reproductive rights, against Oppression, Sexism & Austerity) says Christmas is a particularly difficult time for women living in abusive relationships.

ROSA's Laura Fitzgerald says many women find themselves in difficulty at this time of year, and the protesters will be calling for an "end to the culture of violence against women".
