David Quinn, director with the Iona Institute and Irish Independent columnist, told Lunchtime today that he would like the Referendum Commissioner to what he has said "in respect of right to marry and found a family".

During the interview with Jonathan Healy, Mr Quinn stated: "The Commissioner needs to add to that the fact that if two men get the right to marry or two women get a right to marry, they get a right to have children and what does that do to a child's right to a mother and father where possible.

"I'm not saying he's wrong.

"If we pass this on May 22nd, my parenting rights and my wife's parenting rights remain the same but what happens is, you addition give two men the right to marry, two men the right to have children and what does that do to the child's right to have a mother where possible?

"I would like him to add certainly to what he has said."

Last week, the Catholic Primate Archbishop Eamonn Martin, has said the Church has not yet decided if it could continue to carry out the civil element of marriage should the upcoming same sex marriage referendum be passed.

Mr Quinn also spoke about the church's position if the Marriage Referendum should pass.
