The Dáil has voted against a plan to hold an emergency debate on the Gaza situation tomorrow.
TDs also voted 68 to 47 to go into recess from this evening and not return until September 17th.
However TDs did agree to stand for a minutes' silence "in solidarity" with the people of the Middle East.
Opposition TDs had wanted the government to allow one final day of sittings tomorrow for a debate on Gaza.
Sinn Féin's Gerry Adams said one final debate could easily have been allowed.
While the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, flanked by a protestor, says the Dail break comes after a busy time and a lot of work lies ahead too.
