There are few things in life that are quite as irritating as cyclists who think they can defy the rules of the road, but we're sure this man learned his lesson.

The video footage shows a cyclist racing towards a closing barrier in an attempt to beat it and ride under it before it shuts.

However, his little stunt didn't quite go to plan as he instead speeds head first into the barrier, getting lodged between its polls and ripping it from its hinges.

At least he was smart enough to wear a helmet...
