A female cyclist has been killed in a crash in Limerick.

She died when her bike collided with an articulated truck at the junction of Rutland Street, Fr. Matthew Bridge and Charlotte's Quay at around 7.30 this morning.

The woman, who's believed to be in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to the Mid Western Regional Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place.

The driver of the truck was not seriously injured but is being treated for shock.

The stretch of road - close to The Hunt Museum - is currently closed while gardaí carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

Diversions are in place.

Gardaí at Henry Street are investigating.
