Lower paid civil servants say they will ballot for industrial action if the government proceeds with imposing cuts in pay and conditions. The Civil Public and Services Union (CPSU) represents 13,000 lower paid civil servants.
It is holding its annual conference in Galway today. It is the first union to debate Croke Park 2 since it was rejected last week.
The government has asked the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) to examine if there is any basis to revive the talks.
Earlier this month members of the CPSU endorsed the rejection of Croke Park 2 by its Executive Committee.
The agreement was rejected by 87% to 13% with a turnout of 82%. While the Croke Park 1 Agreement was also rejected by the union but by a smaller majority of 67% to 33%.
General-Secretary of the CPSU is Eoin Ronayne. He says while the members do not want to take industrial action they will if they are forced.
He spoke to Lunchtime here on Newstalk.
