A further 63 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in the past week.

The total death toll in the Republic now stands at 6,291 since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile, 11,255 new COVID-19 cases have been reported today.

That breaks down as 5,677 PCR-confirmed cases and 5,578 positive antigen test results.

The five-day moving average of new cases is now 9,757.

627 patients are receiving treatment in hospital today - down from 646 yesterday.

68 of those patients are in ICU, down from 72 yesterday.

It comes as the Mater Hospital has asked people to avoid its emergency department where possible.

The Dublin hospital - which last night had the most COVID-19 patients of any hospital in the country - said the number of COVID patients and COVID-related staff absences were among the reasons for the 'significant pressure' the hospital is facing.
