Residents of a second housing estate in Togher in Cork look set to mount their own protest against the installation of water meters.

It is day seven of the demonstration at Ashbrook Heights - with residents from the neighbouring estate 'Palmbury' now joining the blockade at the entrance.

Water meters are set to be installed in Palmbury in three days time. But these protestors have been telling RedFM they will not let it happen.

Last week, the residents in Ashbrook Heights continued their protest over the installation of meters.

Gardai were called in after up to 100 parents and children prevented Irish Water contractors from gaining access to the estate.

They said they are determined to keep up their fight against the meters. It is understood that all work ceased at the site as residents engaged with gardai.

Residents have said that everyone in the country should be making their feelings known about the water meters.
