The Mayor of Cork has resigned from Fianna Fáil in order to run for the Dáil as an Independent.
The resignation of Alan Coleman came after he withdrew from the selection convention to run for Fianna Fáil in Cork South-West.
He says he has observed a "palpable air of dissatisfaction" among the public, with the lack of vision shown by the Fianna Fáil leadership.
He also says the party has become disconnected from the everyday issues faced by people across the country.
Mr Coleman has been a member of Cork County Council for 13 years, representing Fianna Fáil on the Bandon Electoral Area since 1991.
