A Cork GP has been jailed for two years for the sexual assault of a teenage patient over 25 years ago.
Dr Kevin Mulcahy of Cregane, Lombardstown, Mallow, Co Cork had denied a single charge of indecently assaulting the then 15 year-old-girl on December 23rd 1989.
However a jury of ten men and two women at Cork Circuit Criminal Court took just 39 minutes to find the 57 year old guilty of the sole charge of indecently assaulting the woman who is now in her 40's.
The medic had been on a house call to the woman's seriously ill mother at the time - she herself had a cold and Mulcahy examined her in her bedroom - where the assault took place.
Judge Sean O Donnabhain said Dr Mulcahy had abused the trust placed in him by sexually assaulting her at a time of great vulnerability.
