A father and son rescued after 28 hours trapped in a cave in Co Clare have admitted they did not prepare properly in advance.
Patrick Troy and his son Finn spent Saturday night underground after they went caving in Pollnagollum in north Clare.
Despite being an experienced caver, Patrick says he did not adhere to the basics and he got lost.
The alarm was raised after he failed to collect someone in Limerick.
Patrick told Newstalk Lunchtime that he made a rookie error.
“I made a few cardinal errors ... it’s vital that you leave a call out and because I knew this cave so well and we were only going for a short trip ... I skipped it.”
Patrick and Finn spoke to Jonathan Healy about their time in the cave and the rescue, and you can listen to their interview via the player below
