The Central Bank is releasing special collector's coins to commemorate the 1916 Rising and the Proclamation of the Irish Republic.

Gold and silver proof coins have been minted with the statue of Hibernia in front of key phrases from the Proclamation.

The bank says the design of the coins reflects back to the GPO and its association with the Easter Rising.

A commemorative €2 coin, designed by Emmet Mullins to mark the centenary celebration, has already been released into general circulation.

The special proof coins went on sale at 9.30am this morning. The silver coin costs €45, while the gold will cost collectors €375.

You can order the coins and find more details on the Central Bank's website.
