A man remains in custody this morning after a car rammed a Garda station.

The vehicle was driven into the front of Monaghan Garda station and set on fire, just after 7pm yesterday evening.

The man in his 40s was arrested at the scene.

He is being held at Carrickmacross Garda station where he can questioned for up to 24 hours.

Nobody was injured in the incident - however, the building has suffered smoke damage.
