Burton says Gilmore has her full support, despite poll

The Minister for Social Protection and Deputy leader of the Labour party Joan Burton says Eamon Gilmore has her full support.

The latest IPSOS-MRBI poll in The Irish Times shows support for the Labour leader has fallen and he is now the least popular leader in the country at 16%.

Support for the Labour party also fell by one to 9%. It also shows that Fianna Fáil remains the most popular party in the country on 26%.

That is unchanged from February when they took the top spot for the first time in 5 years. While satisfaction with the government is up 3 points since February to 21%.

Sinn Féin take back some ground as they are up 3 points to 21%, the Greens are up 1 to 2%, while others are down 2 to 18%.

But Minister Burton says the Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore is doing an important job.

The Minister also said she welcomed the referendum on the abolition of the Seanad, as protestors chanted outside.
