A former Taoiseach says the deal on Irish Water may have long term consequences for the state's income.
It's understood charges will be suspended for a number of months while a commission examines Irish Water.
Iar-Thaoiseach John Bruton says the decision is of concern.
"I also think we're at risk of creating a situation where debts to the state can be ones that you can choose not to pay if there is sufficient political agitation.
"And that, I think, is going to have difficulty in the future. That's the sort of problem that Greece, for example, got itself into, and we don't want to be going down that road."
Meanwhile, Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness says that the issue of Irish Water charges has distracted us from the real issues at hand.
Despite Fianna Fáil threatening to break off Government negotiations over Irish Water alone, McGuinness now says that the homelessness crisis and our health sector need to be prioritised.
For its part, Sinn Fein says it doesn't trust Fianna Fáil when it comes to its promise to get rid of Irish Water.
