Two brothers jailed for plotting to rob €900,000 from a cash-in-transit van have had their sentences reduced on appeal.

Wayne Bradley of Ratoath Road, Finglas in Dublin and his older brother Alan - with an address at Kentstown in Co Meath - were jailed for a total of 12 and a half years.

The brothers were caught just minutes before the planned heist at a Tesco branch in Celbridge in November 2007.

They were part of a gang led by the late crime boss Eamon Dunne.

Two years ago, Alan Bradley was jailed for seven years, while his younger brother Wayne got five and a half.

At the time, the judge criticised the maximum 10 year term applicable to the crime and that criticism formed one of the main grounds for today's appeal.

Their lawyers also argued that mitigating factors such as their early pleas and lack of serious previous convictions were not given enough credit.

The Appeals Court refused to accept that the evidence against the brothers was not overwhelming, but agreed that the judge did err somewhat in principle.

Both their sentences were then reduced by six months each.
