The Internet, with its trolls, orchestrated misogyny, hate speech, and cruel jokes designed to make you look stupid, is not a very nice place. Which is why an 85-year-old British grandmother has become the latest online darling, all because she googled something in the politest way possible.
May Ashworth’s grandson Ben John was visiting his grandmother late last week. Lifting the lid of her laptop computer, he was struck by the sweet and polite nature she treated the Google search bar with, taking a photograph and sharing it on Twitter.
May had been left stumped by the numerical translation of a string of Roman numerals, and had searched for the following on the world’s biggest search engine: “please translate these roman numerals mcmxcviii thank you.”
Overcome by the sweet and old-fashioned way in which his grandmother had posed the question, Ben John shared it on Twitter, where it has since gone viral.
Omg opened my Nan's laptop and when she's googled something she's put 'please' and 'thank you'. I can't 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/hiy2tecBjU

For its part, the Internet giant replied, graciously thanking May for her search request:
Dearest Ben's Nan.
Hope you're well.
In a world of billions of Searches, yours made us smile.
Oh, and it's 1998.
