An Army Bomb Disposal Team has been called out to deal with a mortar shell found on the banks of the Shannon in Limerick city centre.
The alarm was raised by a member of the public who reported a suspicious object on the shore near O'Callaghan's Strand.
It is understood the shell dates from the War of Independence era.
