President of the United States, Barack Obama, now has his own Twitter account.
President Obama's first tweet read "Hello, Twitter! It's Barack. Really! Six years in, they're finally giving me my own account."

The new account, called POTUS, will have tweets exclusively from the president. The @POTUS account is specific to the position and will be passed onto whoever wins the next U.S. general election in 2016 with all the tweets from President Obama being archived like any other government documents.
President Obama previously signed tweets sent by him with a '-bo' from the '@BarackObama' account.
The White House account offered a warm welcome to the President as the account continues to grow in followers at a rapid rate with the number of followers at the time of writing standing at 150,000.
