The Banking Inquiry has confirmed it will call newspaper and media editors as witnesses later this month.
Figures from RTE and the three major newspapers – the Irish Independent, Irish Examiner and the Irish Times - will be called to discuss the role of the media during the property boom and the lead-in to the banking crisis.
Academics Julian Mercille and Harry Browne will also be asked to give evidence about how media organisations were influenced by their own commercial interests.
Julien Mercille is a lecturer at University College Dublin and author of the book 'The Role of the Media in the European Economic Crisis: The Case of Ireland'. Harry Browne is a Lecturer in the School of Media, Dublin Institute of Technology.
Browne and Mercille are scheduled to appear on March 25th, with the newspaper and TV editors to appear the following day.
