An Australian man near Darwin in Australia accidentally set fire to his car recently while trying to do a little bit of DIY on it.
The man was celebrating turning another year older, and having always wanted a convertible, he decided to give himself one as a present to mark the day.
However, instead of going out and buying a new or used one, he took to his own car with a oxyacetylene cutter and the help of a few friends.
Darren Hopkins and his mates began to attempt to remove the roof of the vehicle at about 2am on Saturday morning, taking turns to do the cutting until they'd gotten through all the structural supports.
However, as he told NT News, things didn't go to plan from there: "All the cutting was done it just needed to be popped off. We all lost interest, packed it all up and checked to make sure there was no fire but there must have been a couple of embers on the mattress in the back. We've gone up stairs and had a couple more drinks and turned around and there's a fireball out the front".
SERIOUSLY, WHO HASN'T TRIED TO CUT THE TOP OF THEIR CAR OFF WHILE DRINKING AND ACCIDENTALLY BURNT IT TO THE GROUND? http://t.co/vMCa6C286t

In an even stranger turn of events, the car then started up and began to roll down the road, at which point they called the emergency services.
Hopkins saw the funny side at least, saying "I thought it was hilarious - it's my big-ass birthday candle - I just couldn't blow it out, I had to call the fire brigade".
Duty superintendent Louise Jorgensen, who responded to the call, was a little bit less enthused about the idea, saying "the car was totally destroyed by the fire, it was [an] unregistered vehicle, it was an older vehicle so not a great deal of value but still a bit of a worry that somebody would do something so stupid".
She added that destroying your own property is not a criminal offence, and that "it's unlikely we'll be charging anyone for stupidity".
Not a case of another year older, another year wiser then...
