American pick up artist Julien Blanc left Australia overnight after his visa was revoked by the immigration ministry.

Blanc, who styles himself as a 'date coach,' had planned to tour the country giving seminars on how to attract women. He received widespread criticism from Australians, and is accused of promoting physical and emotional abuse of women through his seminars, YouTube videos and Twitter account.

Immigration minister Scott Robertson spoke to Sky News about the decision: "This guy wasn’t putting forward political ideas, he was putting forward abuse that was derogatory to women and that’s just something, those are values abhorred in this country."

The seminars began last week in Sydney, and attention was quickly drawn to videos in which Blanc physically harasses women and Tweets using the hashtag #ChokingGirlsAroundtheWorld.

A Twitter campaign #takedownjulienblanc succeeded in having his seminars blacklisted from venues in Melbourne. Though he attempted to organise the event on a boat, the cruise company cancelled it and Blanc and the attendees were led off the boat by police.

Victoria's police commissioner Ken Lay condemned Blanc in a statement today:

"I’ve seen Julien Blanc’s work. To me most of it appears to be deeply disturbing and offensive. Labelling women as objects and actively promoting the abuse of women degrades the dignity of our whole community."

Speaking of the online reaction she said: "it gives me confidence that we are moving in the right direction."

No comment has yet been made on the decision by Blanc or Real Social Dynamics, the company which organises the seminars.
