One person has been arrested in Longford after a large Batman inflatable was slashed.

Substantial damage was caused to the inflatable, which was being set up at the Cathedral car park as part of Halloween celebrations.

It was to be used as part of the the annual "Dead of Night" parade in the town.

A person was seen hitting out at the inflatable several times - and a juvenile was later arrested near the scene on Saturday.

The inflatable was patched up by a group from Castlerea in Co Roscommon, who hire out the items for local festivals.
