A suspected pipe bomb has been made safe in Cork city this morning.
The discovery was made shortly before 8am in Killala Gardens in Knocknaheeny.
The area was cordoned off and people living nearby had to evacuated.
Gardaí called in army bomb disposal experts at Collins Barracks and the device was taken away for further examination.
It is not clear at this stage if the device was viable.
Meanwhile gardaí have appealed for information after a "crudely made" bomb was discovered outside a house in Limerick last night.
The bomb, described by gardaí as a "viable device", was found outside a house on Upper Gerald Griffin Street at around 9.30pm.
There were a number of people inside the house at the time the explosive material was discovered.
The device was made safe by a defence forces bomb disposal team which travelled to the scene from Cork.
