Arcade Fire are well known for embracing the occasional theatrics in their music, marketing and live performances - whether that's interactive videos or their energetic on-stage dancing. Now the band is inviting audiences to get in on the act.
For their recently announced Reflektor tour of North America (in support of the album of the same name), the band has issued an unusual advisory for those lucky enough to procure tickets. Anyone booking their tickets through Ticketmaster is informed "NIGHT OF SHOW: Please wear formal attire or costume." These aren't small, intimate venues either: most of the concerts take place in major arenas. It seems unlikely the 'code' will be strictly adhered to, but it provides a hint that the band might be planning a particularly unusual show this time around.
A series of 'VIP packages' are also being offered to eager fans. Some of the potential benefits of purchasing these premium packages include "early entry, access to the pre-show Reflektor Kanaval with beer, wine, and appetizers; a limited edition Arcade Fire lithograph [and] exclusive merchandise ".
Arcade Fire will be kicking off their North American Reflektor tour in March, with the last scheduled gig so far due to take place in their hometown of Montreal on August 30th. The band has yet to announce international dates outside some Australia & New Zealand dates in January-February, although we wouldn't bet against an Irish gig in the near future. However, their Canadian date on August 30th suggests they will not be available to headline Electric Picnic again that same weekend.
