It has been announced today by Opel Group CEO, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, that the all-new Astra will be unveiled in Frankfurt this September during the International Motor Show. This photo shows what the camouflaged prototypes look like.
The Opel boss tells us that the new Astra promises to be efficient, spacious and lightweight. Dr. Neumann also says that the new car will house “an abundance of advanced safety and convenience innovations.”
We’ve been told that the dimensions of the exterior will be reduced, and the space will be devoted to “occupants in the cockpit”. The Astra engines will powered by “state-of-the-art engines of the new generation.
Dr. Neumann said, . “With each Kadett generation, Opel made individual mobility accessible to millions of people around the world, and several generations of Astra have brought innovative technologies from the upper class into the affordable compact segment. Each generation has raised the bar in safety, comfort and efficiency. The new Astra will once again set standards in the compact class. Amongst others, it will be the first Opel model to be launched with Opel OnStar’s unique connected service that is ready to help and rescue you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
In other news, General Motors (Opel has been in the GM family since 1929), yesterday celebrated the delivery of their 500 millionth vehicle to a customer since the company was founded back in 1908. 68 million of these cars were made by Opel.
