Efforts are being made to organise more sober events to mark St Patrick's Day.

The celebration of all things green has long been associated with drinking to excess, however Frances Black is trying to change that.

Today, the singer held 'Sober St Patrick's Day' in the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, featuring music, dancing and entertainment, but not a drop of alcohol.

Here she explains how the idea came about:

Another alochol-free event - Paddy's Day Unlocked - will take place in Meeting House Square in Temple Bar ar 3pm. Organised by events group Happenings in conjunction with Headstrong and Nialler9, it will showcase music, food and activities for kids.
