Aaron Brady’s defence team has finished calling witnesses, which means the trial has now entered its closing stages.

Mr Brady, from Crossmaglen in County Armagh, denies murdering Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe during an armed robbery outside a credit union in County Louth in 2013.

Inspector John Moroney gave evidence earlier in the trial of speaking to Aaron Brady the day after the shooting and asking him to account for his whereabouts.

Mr Brady lied by saying he was with his girlfriend at the time but has since claimed he only said that because he was engaged in illegal fuel laundering that night.

Inspector Moroney also noted that Mr Brady told him he only found out about the shooting that morning.

Mr Brady denied saying that, and suggested the inspector was either mistaken or acting maliciously.

The witness denied that was the case when he was recalled today.

Both sides have now finished their cases and closing speeches are due to begin tomorrow morning.
