Aaron Brady has told the jury in his trial for the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe that he is “unhappy” with how his alibi was investigated.
Mr Brady, from Crossmaglen in County Armagh, denies shooting Detective Donohoe during an armed robbery outside a credit union in County Louth in 2013.
He has also pleaded not guilty to a robbery charge, arising from the same incident on Jan 25th 2013.
When asked to account for his whereabouts on the night, he initially told investigators he was at his girlfriend’s house at the time of the shooting.
He now admits that was a lie, designed to hide the fact he was engaged in illegal fuel laundering at the time.
Beginning his third day in the witness box today, he told prosecuting barrister Brendan Grehan that he was “unhappy” with how his account was investigated.
He also denied telling a Garda the next day that he didn’t know a Garda had been shot dead the night before.
He said that was “ridiculous,” and when asked why it was included in the Garda’s note of their conversation, he said he couldn’t say whether he was driven by malice, or mistaken.
Either way, he insisted, he was wrong.
