A marine wildlife organisation has released a shocking video replicating the death throes of a whale killed by whalers.
Australian actor David Field - who has acted alongside Heath Ledger - plays the part of the dying animal in the Ultimate Death Scene film.
During the clip, Field is shown screaming and writhing on the floor before seeming to choke on his own blood.
Sea Sheperd, the group behind the shock tactic, take the link between the whale's death and the murder of a human further by explaining what would happen to a human killer who carried out an act like the whalers'.
The makers say "The whaling industry claim that a whale dies within minutes. The truth is, most victims are caught in a traumatic and violent death that can take over an hour. If this cruel and cold-blooded death were to happen to humans, the perpetrators would be jailed immediately".
WARNING: Distressing images below
Sea Shepherd is hoping the film raises awareness of the practice of whaling.
Whaling season is currently underway with boats from the Faroe islands, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Japan traditionally taking part.
Over 30,000 whales have died a brutal death for "scientific research". Stop the killing: http://t.co/Y5dp7ZMYzo #UltimateDeathScene Pls RT!
