We're so busy running around, trying to get to the next thing, trying to reach the next point, that often we are not present in the now.
We are no longer aware of our surroundings or who surrounds us.
Often our heads are in our phones and connection with those beside us is lost.
Writer and director Lochlainn McKenna was tasked by Vodafone to go out on public transport and get people to look up from their phones and connect with him.
‘A Stranger’s Tale’ is a series of short stories he wrote based on a connection he made with someone he had never met before.
A STRANGER'S TALE
When Lochlainn McKenna plucks up the courage to speak to strangers beside him stories are unearthed that would otherwise be left untold.
Stories of inspiration, struggle, love, fate, joy and even of near death. By the time the journey has come to a end, a stranger has become a friend.
And for you, listening on Spotify, in the space of just ten minutes you will have been connected to people you would probably never have crossed paths with before.

A DREAM PROJECT
Lochlainn McKenna says it was a privilege to work on something so meaningful, "I was tasked by Vodafone to go out on public transport, meet strangers and see what stories I could find around me. Then I would write 6 of the stories that stuck with me the most. A dream project for me, to be honest."
Lochlainn added he has always been fascinated by people and how they go about their lives, "I’m often daydreaming about where they might be travelling to. What their relationship to one another might be. Why they frown. Who’s making them laugh on the other side of the phone… That’s the way my brain ticks. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was when this came across my metaphorical desk."
"Nearly every single person I spoke to wanted to chat. People crave connection. Our whole lives are built around it. Whether it’s cuddling into your partner after a long day or giggling your way through a raft of WhatsApp’s, or, you know, chatting to the stranger on the train next to you. Connection is the lifeblood of our existence."
CONNECTION
Vodafone believes that every connection, no matter how big or small, has the power to make a positive difference.
Connections can comfort us, inspire us, enrich us, and change the way we look at the world. From lifting us when we’re down. To motivating us when we’re up against it or inspiring us to make a difference and help others.
Whether this is achieved through a text, an email or a call, every connection can count. This is why Vodafone is committed to providing the best quality network (or connectivity), so Ireland can count on us to make these connections possible.
‘A Stranger’s Tale’ is the result of a quest to learn more about the people and the community around us, and the transformative effect it can have on us all. Proving the importance of connections in humanity and how every one of them counts.
