A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother in Cork city earlier this week.
61-year-old Marian Horgan was stabbed to death at her home on Murmont Avenue in Montenotte on Monday morning.
Paul Horgan of the same address appeared in court this morning.
Garda Mark Durkan told the court he was arrested at Murmont Avenue last Monday morning, and taken to Mayfield garda station.
He was formally charged with murdering his mother, and made no reply.
Judge Leo Malone remanded him in custody to appear again at Cork District Court next Tuesday for service of the book of evidence.
Ms Horgan's husband Billy was also attacked during the incident, but he managed to flee the house.
He was treated for his injuries in hospital and is recovering with relatives in the city.
Ms Horgan worked as a legal executive with a local solicitor, and the couple have three adult children.
Southern correspondent with the Irish Independent, Ralph Riegel, was in court.
He told Newstalk Lunchtime a psychiatric assessment has been ordered.
