A man has died following a serious assault in Naas.

Gardaí say the incident happened last night at Sarto Park in the Co Kildare town.

A 58-year-old man was brought to Naas General Hospital, where he later died.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He is being detained at Naas Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene has been preserved a technical examination, and the Coroner has been notified.
