Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, everyone was jumping on the internet bandwagon.

Companies were being warned to start a website as quickly as possible, that an online presence was vital unless they wanted to be left out of the internet bubble.

While larger companies had the money to invest in professtional web developers, local businesses and sole traders couldn’t justify dropping large amounts of money on some new fandangled technology.

So they asked a friend, or a friend of a friend, or a desperate college student who needed the money to do it for them on the cheap.

And here’s what happened.

West Cork Vintage Club

"This site is best viewed with Internet Explorer." Oh hell no.

Web Pages Ireland

This web design company boasts a service that provides "quality, ingenuity, ubiquity and design"...and then goes ahead and showcases the exact opposite of those claims on its very own website.

"Are you tired of being quoted ridiculous for the design of a site," they ask, leaving out a fairly essential word. "That's where we come in," they say, claiming to have "many years of combined experience".

But the worst part of all? On the contact page they provide a postal address. It's a web design company that wants you to get in touch with them by sending a letter

Excuse us while find a corner and have a little cry.

Webbery

Another web design company, this one at least tries to adhere to some standards in web design.

It still fails pretty miserably, though.

You can't tell here, but that header image changes every couple of seconds.

Seriously, ENOUGH with the moving images, web designers of the world.

Donegal Farm Relief Group

This company provides a range of services to farmers like cow scanning, hoof care and plastic recycling. Fair enough, but we can't shake the feeling that the huge "special offers" banner was stolen from a Harvey Norman advertisement.

Bonus: See that tiny map of Ireland in the right hand corner? It turns out that's Webbery's calling card. We know what you're thinking: a company actually commissioned them to design their website?

We Buy Cars or Vans Belfast

We have to admit, it's pretty ambitious to try and fit your entire website's content on just a couple of pages.

Our favourite part is the blatantly obvious use of stock photos in place of actual satisfied customers:

Have you come across any terrible websites on your internet travels?
