By-Elections

Friday sees the Seanad by election and the Dublin South/West by-election.

With a crucial Dail seat and the John McNulty affair both up for decision tomorrow it will be a day of political intrigue.

Latest reports suggest McNulty is prepared to give up his Seanad seat in the event he wins the vote.

Dublin South West by-election and Roscommon South Leitrim by-election get underway at 7am and polls close at 10pm with the count due to begin Saturday morning.

The Seanad by-election also takes place on Friday. Voting closes at 11am. There could be a result known by noon.

Cabinet meet on Friday to finalise budgetary measures ahead of Tuesday's budget day. They will also discuss Ireland's preparedness for Ebola virus.

Ebola

The Cabinet is to discuss the Ebola crisis on Friday, amid concern over how prepared Ireland is to deal with the virus.

All Ministers - including Health Minister Varadkar - will update the Cabinet as to their own specific areas of responsibility.

The HSE insists Ireland is prepared for any outbreak of the disease - but there is growing unease among GPs.

Recent days have seen an escalation of fear over the virus spreading in Europe. Several people have been taken ill in Spain while a British man is reported to have died in Macedonia with Ebola like symptoms.

World Mental Health Day

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day, with events around the globe raising awareness of mental health issues and raising support for efforts to provide support for those suffering from mental illness.
