27 people were arrested in Ireland last month as part of an operation involving authorities in 20 European countries. It was part of a day of action against metal theft carried out on May 21st and 22nd.
Gardai working as part of the operation coordinated by Europol searched over 70 premises in Dublin, Wicklow and Cavan.
In total, 27 people were arrested for a variety of offences - including burglary, theft and related matters. Over 1,000 stolen beer kegs were recovered.
Gardai say a large number of other offences were detected, including breaches of the Road Traffic Acts.
This operation was conducted with the co-operation of the Metal Theft Forum, local authorities and other interested stake holders with responsibility for enforcing the legislation in this area.
