In France a 12-year-old girl has been caught by police after using stolen cheques to buy over €2,500 worth of sweets and pastries.

Police in Bordeaux say she stole a neighbours chequebook in March and used it over several months to go on a shopping spree at local bakeries.

Her criminal sweet tooth was uncovered when a local bakery tried to deposit 23 of the cheques and they bounced.

She was quickly apprehended and questioned by police.

She has been released after her parents agreed to pay the bakery back.
