A woman who turned 114 yesterday had to shave 15 years off her life in order to sign up for Facebook.

Anna Stoehr, the oldest person in Minnesota and the seventh oldest in the United States, wanted to set up a Facebook profile in order to get birthday wishes from friends and family around the world.

Just one problem... when it comes to registering with the site, you can't actually scroll back all the way to 1900 for your year-of-birth. So, with the help of a phone salesman who befriended Anna after selling her 85-year-old son a smartphone, Anna joined the social network by pretending to be a sprightly 99 year-old – and has since sent Mark Zuckerberg a letter saying, “I’m still here.”

Anna's incredible longevity is matched by a fondness for technology, and the video below shows her having a FaceTime conversation in German with friends she's made online.

As Anna shows all of us, you're never too old to try something new.
