A quarter of Irish employees search for new jobs on their work computers. 29% of men do it but only 14% of women according to a new study.
Some 35% of workers use social media at work while 31% of us print personal documents and similarly 13% also send company documents to their home e-mail.
Employees admit to using sites such as Facebook and Twitter during work as well as reading news websites. Over one-third do their online shopping while at work and almost 1/4 watch online videos or listen to online music.
The study shows that younger males lead in bad habits in all categories except reading news, where older males are first. Women waste much less time online in all categories, except when it comes to shopping or looking at funny pictures where they were only a few percentage points behind men.
It shows that it is age groups 15-24 and 25-34 where 62% and 50% answered they use social media such as Facebook and Twitter during work hours, while only 14%of those above 45-years-old did.
The survey asked over 500 Irish employees if they have done any of the following:
- I have used social media during work hours (35%)
- I have printed personal files on company printers (31%)
- I have browsed for other employment from my work computer (23%)
- I have emailed company files to my personal email (13%)
- I have taken company files on a CD/USB stick/printed home (10%)
- I have deleted, misplaced or lost company files I shouldn’t have (4%)
- I have lost, or had stolen from me, a company laptop/ mobile/ USB/ CD with company data (1%)
Employee monitoring software provider Safetica Ireland compiled the survey along with Ámarach.
