The Culture Minister Heather Humphries has been heckled as she spoke at a 1916 centenary event on Moore Street in the capital.

It follows a recent high court ruling that restoration and building work must stop, pending a review of the buildings as a national monument.

Seven wreath laying ceremonies took place in Dublin today at the 1916 Garrison locations which played a key role in the 1916 Rising.

It was part of a series of State ceremonial events which have been happening over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

The wreaths were laid at Dublin Castle, the old Jacobs Factory, Bolands Mill, The Four Courts, The College of Surgeons, Moore Street and St James Hospital.

O'Connell St and areas of Smithfield have been pedestriansied, and a special family zone is operating in Merrion Square. Street art, duck-feeding, vintage cars and more will be on display on what is one of the biggest civic events in history of Irish state.

There have also been major events later at sites outside of Dublin that played a significant role during the Rising, including wreath-laying ceremonies in Athenry, Cork, Enniscorthy and Ashbourne at 1.15pm.

These have been synchronised to coincide with the exact time the first shots rang out.
