The DC 'Extended Universe' may not have enjoyed much in the way of critical acclaim as of yet - certainly compared to its rival Marvel's efforts - but it remains a commercial juggernaut.

Following on from Suicide Squad, the comic company's quest for box office domination will continue next year with its Justice League ensemble film - but first Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will enjoy her time in the spotlight.

First introduced in this year's Batman vs Superman, next summer's solo film ditches the modern setting of the other DC efforts for World War 1.

The full trailer for the film gives us a better look at the setting, as well as the film's action sequences.

While the film boasts Patty Jenkins (of Monster fame) as a director, it certainly looks to share some of the hyper-stylisation and slow-motion fight scenes that have been become familiar from Zack Snyder's DC efforts. However, it also looks to boast substantially more humour and colour than Snyder's often bleak efforts.

The film, which is due out on June 2nd, is also noteworthy for being one of the first modern superhero blockbusters to be headlined by a female character. None of Marvel's female heroes have yet enjoyed a solo film.

That's due to be rectified with Captain Marvel - starring Brie Larson - in 2019, although Evangeline Lilly's Wasp will share top-billing with Paul Rudd Ant-Man in the 2018 sequel to Ant-Man. But for now, Gadot's Wonder Woman is something of a trailblazer - and, it seems, a bullet-stopper.

Check out the trailer for Wonder Woman - which also stars Robin Wright and Chris Pine - below.
