A couple whose baby died six days after his birth say they are still waiting for a report from the Health Service Executive (HSE).

A verdict of medical misadventure was delivered at an inquest into the death of baby Kevin James Kelly yesterday.

He was born at Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar on August 16th, 2014.

Dublin Coroner's Court heard he died of neurological injuries caused by low oxygen during his birth.

His mother, Una Kelly, told Newstalk Breakfast the case is still ongoing due a delay by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

"What's really burdening us at the moment is the HSE inquiry", she said.

"They informed us that they were conducting an inquiry into what happened to the baby, what happened during my birth and explain everything and give recommendations and they have still not finalised the report".

"They commenced the report in October 2014 and we were informed that it was going to take four to six months, and we're still waiting".

Mrs Kelly, who is a children's nurse, says she feels "very let down by the whole system, feel very let down as a nurse".

But she says she feels vindicated by the verdict yesterday.
