If the usual routes of finding love aren't working out for you, an artist duo in New York have developed a new way to meet potential partners.

Signing up costs $25, and the organisers of Smell Dating will send you a t-shirt, which you wear for three days, without using perfume, deodorant or anything else that would effect your body's natural smell.

Once the three days are up, you send the t-shirt back to the organisers, and they then send you ten t-shirts already worn by other Smell Dating participants.

From there, you give them a sniff, and if you like what you smell - and that person likes your odour, too - then Smell Dating will give you each other's contact details, and the rest is up to you and your prospective partner.

Why would people want to begin a relationship from scent alone? According to Smell Dating:

"Unlike sight and sound, smell is interpreted first in terms of memory and emotion before being mapped to language. The internet has replaced fleshy experience with flat apparitions, avatars and painstakingly curated profile pics. Smell Dating closes digital distance by restoring your molecular intuition. Our members make connections via deeply intuitives cues, perfected in the ancient laboratory of human evolution. Surrender yourself to a poignant experience of body odour. "

Scientists have proven some correlation between physical attraction and body odour, a while the project is just in the 'art project' stages right now - only 100 people have been invited to take part - it could end up being the next Tinder. Watch this space...
