The Sinn Féin President has launched a scathing attack on Independents and Fianna Fáil for facilitating the possibility of putting Enda Kenny back into Government.

In his keynote speech to the party's Ard Fheis in Dublin last night, Gerry Adams repeated his call for water charges to be scrapped.

Addressing over 2000 delegates, Deputy Adams says the Proclamation hasn't yet been fulfilled - a genuine Republic couldn't tolerate the housing and homeless crisis or the scandal in our emergency departments.

The Sinn Féin President says his party was willing to be part of the change that people clearly voted for in the election, and offered to talk to the two big parties.

Speaking at the Convention Centre in Dublin, Gerry Adams said:

"The nasty little soundbites that would make the DUP blush. The Fianna Fáil leader in particular proclaimed that this party, that you the people in this convention hall and more importantly, the people throughout this island who vote for Sinn Féin- that you and they and we, are not fit for Government."

He criticised Micheál Martin for promising not to give Fine Gael another term, and for now talking to Enda Kenny about the formation of a minority Government.

And Independents came in the firing line too. Adams said:

"There were other citizens who thought they were voting for an alternative when they voted Independent. Some of these TDs now stand with Fianna Fail and Fine Gael. How independent is that?"

Abolishing water charges proved a key theme of the Ard Fheis, and Gerry Adams said he had a message for Micheál Martin - that charges and the utility must go.

Meanwhile, Anti Austerity Alliance TD Ruth Coppinger, has compared Sinn Féin to Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil when it comes to abortion.

She was talking following comments on the subject made by the North's deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness in which he suggested.

Deputy Coppinger said, "what is Sinn Féin's real position on abortion? On the one hand, their southern leaders pose at 'Repeal the 8th' photo ops, on the other, their leading northern figure says they are anti abortion. Which is it?"
