R Kelly and his record label are reported to have 'parted ways' amid allegations of sexual misconduct against the singer.

RCA Records - which is owned by Sony, and has been in a contract with the singer since 2012 - had faced fresh calls to drop the performer in recent weeks.

Billboard first reported that the singer and label have agreed to part ways, with multiple media outlets also reporting the news.

There's not expected to be an official announcement from RCA about the move.

While R Kelly has long faced claims of misconduct, the recent broadcast of the Surviving R Kelly documentary has reignited public interest in the allegations.

The TV documentary features numerous women speaking about their experiences with the singer, including allegations of physical and emotional abuse.

R Kelly has repeatedly denied the allegations against him.

The recent documentary has prompted widespread outcry, including from many of R Kelly's former collaborators.

Lady Gaga pledged to remove her 2013 collaboration with the singer from music streaming services in the wake of the "absolutely horrifying and indefensible" allegations.

French rock band Phoenix, meanwhile, said they were "deeply horrified" by the claims about the R&B artist, adding: "We regret that we were not both more informed and more discerning when we worked with him previously."

Protests had also taken place outside Sony Music buildings in the US, with demonstrators calling for the company to '#MuteRKelly' and drop the singer.
