Today marks one year since Robin Williams, one of Hollywood's most beloved stars, died aged 63.
The actor was found dead in his bedroom at his Tiberon, California home. His representative said he had been “struggling with depression” for some time.
Famed as both a comic and dramatic actor, winning an Academy Award for his role in Good Will Hunting.
However, there are many gems within the Robin Williams collection. Here are just nine that are worth revisiting.
1. The Fisher King
One of the less talked about and perhaps one of the more underrated films from the Williams collection, The Fisher King tells the story of a radio DJ who tries to find redemption by helping a homeless man whose life he inadvertently wrecked. As is common through Williams career, this is a fairly mediocre film with a stellar leading performance.
2. The Birdcage
A remake of the French La Cage aux folles, The Birdcage is still one of the funniest and best written films you will ever see. Revolving around a gay couple that agrees to put on a front for their son so they can meet his fiancée's parents, Williams is just a perfect fit for his role.
3. Good Will Hunting
Yes, it's probably one of his most memorable roles but there is certainly no harm in revisiting. Williams plays a psychologist charged with helping a troubled but brilliant mathematician.
4. A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Positively ripped apart when it was released, we really feel like A.I. may have been a little misunderstood. The story centres around a robotic boy who tries to regain the love of his human mother. Williams contributed his voice for the film to the character of Dr Know.
5. One Hour Photo
Ready for something creepy? In this diamond of a film, Williams plays a one-hour photo lab developer who becomes slightly obsessed with a family who come to get their photos printed on a pretty regular basis. Disturbing.
6. Insomnia
We thought we'd bunch these together. Williams went through a sort of serious role phase from time to time and Insomnia was another product of those times. The film tells the story of two homicide detectives who must track down a murderer in a town where the sun never sets. Lovely.
7. World's Greatest Dad
Sorry about this but we're really not out of the dark zone just yet. Dark and in some ways comedic, World's Greatest Dad revolves around a father who covers up his son's death with a fake suicide note. Be warned, we did say dark.
8. Death To Smoochy
Somewhat of a cult hit when it was released, Death to Smoochy told the story of a kids-show host who is fired and not too happy about his replacement, Smoochy the Rhino, played by Edward Norton.
9. Aladdin
Well, just because is there ever a time you won't want to watch Aladdin?
Bonus Mention: That Friends episode.
This just deserves all the time in the world.
