The Rape Crisis Network Ireland is reminding people that sex without consent is always rape.
The RCNI says 96 percent of perpetrators of sexual violence last year were male, and 85 percent were known to their victim.
The network's annual report for 2015 also indicated that 67 per cent of survivors were subjected to other forms of violence, including physical, emotional, psychological.
The RCNI's helpline was contacted more than 13,000 times in 2015 - with calls ranging in length from one minute to up to one and a half hours.
Research indicates that 80 per cent of rape occurs with alcohol present.
