A man has been jailed for 12 years for typing up and raping a woman at a gaming convention in Dublin.

Keith Hearne, who is from Tallaght, also admitted falsely imprisoning Dominique Meehan at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown in July 2014.

The court heard the 28-year-old told her he could break her neck and threatened her with a knife if she did not keep quiet.

The attack only stopped when someone used a key card to gain entry to the room after hearing her screams for help.

There was a round of applause in court when the sentence was handed down.

Ms Meehan decided to waive her right to anonymity so he could be named.
